Melissa Gilbert Co-Stars in “If Only” Off Broadway

Melissa Gilbert, known to TV audiences as the co-star of Little House on the Prairie, will co-star in the world premiere of Thomas Klingenstein’s If Only.

The Off-Broadway production will run August 19 through September 17 at the Cherry Lane Theater, 38 Commerce Street, off Seventh Avenue, one block south of Bleecker Street.

Christopher McElroen directs a cast that featuring Melissa Gilbert, Mark Kenneth Smaltz, Richmond Hoxie, and Korinne Tetlow.

The story is about a well-educated ex slave and New York socialite who were brought together in 1860, when Abraham Lincoln came t New York City.

Thirty-six years later, they meet again and think of what their lives might have been like if Lincoln had lived, changing the course of the nation and their lives.

In addition to appearing in Little House on the Prairie, Gilbert has appeared in series such as Stand By Your Man, Sweet Justice, Secrets and Lies and 50 TV movies and feature films.

Her company, Halfpint Productions, produced the Emmy award-winning The Miracle Worker many years after she made her stage debut as Helen Keller in The Miracle Worker.

A member of the Actors Studio, her theater credits include Laura in Glass Menagerie, Elma Duckworth in Bus Stop, Melissa Gardner in Love Letters, and Rose White in A Shayna Maidel, for which she won Outer Critic’s Circle and Theater World awards.

In addition to her role in the TV show, she also created the role of Ma in Little House on the Prairie: The Musical.
