Is true human contact possible in this fragmented, post-digital age?
Late
Night. Frank finishes using the bathroom and walks out into the hall. A
yellow ray of light is leaking through a crack in his son's door.
Strange, unexplainable sounds are coming from the room -- music and the
sound of his son giggling. Frank slowly makes his way towards the door
and peeks through the crack. He quickly turns away, his face contorting
in disgust and shame. But he doesn't move away, and is compelled by some
terrible force to look again. Inside the room, his son's naked form
glides through the darkness -- illuminated only by the cold light of the
computer screen.
This is the story of a Father and Son who are
each trapped in their own reality: one in nostalgic dreams of a lost
country and manhood; the other in a digital haze of video-games and sex.
In a series of scenes, we see the mysterious inner life of both of
these characters as they slip further and further into the world of
their own dreams -- before a world-shattering night forces them to
confront the reality of their own existence.
A psychological and emotional portrait of a young boy driven to search for meaning through
online
sex. An exploration of the possibility of genuine contact in an age of
alienation and a statement on the darkness hidden within the depths of
the American dream.
Seeking:
Son, Male
Asian
or Mixed. Thin, with an androgynous or slightly feminine quality. He
tends to be sullen and reserved, as he has already given up the hope of
communicating with his family. The only things that make him excited are
anime, video games, and his dreams of becoming a guitarist. Unable to
find any connection in his real life, he turns to the digital world for
love.
Role Requires Nudity?
Yes. Nudity in scenes where the Son is
alone in his room. Scenes will be under-lit/dark.
Ensemble Actor
The Sterling Renaissance Festival
See:http://www.sterlingfestival.com/Auditions.html
Casting 26 Male and Female roles, ages 20 to 50. Housing provided.
Actors
portray a given Elizabethan character throughout the 9 hour performance
day through interactive improvisation in the lanes and environments,
and take part in pre-rehearsed scenarios on stages. Some ''Bless the
Mark Players'' are cast in edited versions of Shakespeare, and Commedia
Dell'Arte plays, in addition to their village character.
The
Festival, a 35-acre wooded site containing Renaissance style buildings
and open-air wooden amphitheaters, is a whimsical re-creation of an
Elizabethan town; Warwick, circa 1585. The core company of interactive
actors, The Bless the Mark Players, brings the town to life by
portraying the rogues, vagabonds, and townspeople of Shakespeare’s day.
Town characters as well as Queen Elizabeth’s court, roam the lanes and
environments of the festival, including the audience in this very unique
form of theatre. Other entertainers provide music and period acts. All
of this, combined with food, crafts, and games help create an exciting,
comic history of the old English trade faire.
